The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking for public comment on a proposed Green Tier contract with the Kimberly-Clark Marinette Mill. The contract covers operations at the Riverside Avenue facility and would move Kimberly-Clark from Tier One to Tier Two status. The company has participated in the Green Tier program since 2021. Kimberly-Clark employs about two-hundred-thirty workers locally and produces Scott Shop Towels, Wypall wiping products, and Viva paper towels. The company says it has a strong sustainability program — currently diverting one hundred percent of manufacturing waste from landfills, using responsibly sourced virgin pulp, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Future goals include cutting freshwater use, exploring on-site solar energy, and increasing recycled content in packaging. Tier Two participants receive recognition for going beyond regulatory requirements and work under customized contracts with the DNR to improve environmental performance. Facility manager Mike Rettler says Green Tier participation supports the company’s sustainability initiatives. The DNR will hold a virtual public meeting on the proposal at nine a.m. Tuesday, January twenty-seventh. The meeting will be held on Microsoft Teams or by phone. Public comments will be accepted through February fifteenth. Details are available through the DNR.
