Menominee Mayor Casey Hoffman announced new City Council committee assignments during his State of the City address and placed himself in key leadership roles. Hoffman appointed himself chair of the Finance Committee, calling it one of the most important groups in city government. He’ll serve alongside Council Members Josh Jones, Michael DeDamos, and Joe Dulak. The mayor also named himself chair of the Judicial, Legislative, Personnel and Labor Committee — known as JLPL. That committee will include Council Members Vargo, Dulak, and Jones. Josh Jones will chair the Parks, Recreation, Buildings and Grounds Committee, joined by Wendy Kerkela, Christina Vargo, and Hoffman himself. Council Member Steve Fifarik was named chair of the Public Safety and Public Works Committee, with Jones, DeDamos, and Hoffman also serving. Hoffman will also chair the Special Projects and Community Relations Committee, joined by Council Members Dulak, Kerkela, and Vargo. The mayor also created two ad-hoc committees, one focused on social media conduct for council members, chaired by Donna Marineau, and another examining online public participation in meetings, chaired by Cheryl Haupt. Hoffman says the goal is to give new council members meaningful leadership roles and move the city forward.
