A candidate running for Marinette City Council says the city’s budget will be one of the biggest challenges facing leaders in the years ahead. Chris Lesperance is seeking the Ward Seven alderman seat and recently spoke about what he believes should be the council’s top priorities if elected. Lesperance says nearly every decision the city makes ultimately comes down to how taxpayer dollars are spent.
Lesperance says city leaders must work closely with state, county, and local partners to find new revenue sources while still keeping taxes manageable for residents. He also addressed ongoing discussions about the future of the former UW–Green Bay Marinette campus.
Lesperance says he supports exploring options like bringing the YMCA to the campus fieldhouse and finding long-term uses for other buildings on the property. He also says transparency between city government and residents should remain a priority.
Lesperance says if elected he plans to focus on informed decision-making and continued community engagement while serving on the Marinette City Council.
