A fire at a Marinette County business last week could have ended much differently—but quick response and a brand-new sprinkler system made all the difference.
Shortly before 8 p.m., last Wednesday, multiple 911 calls came in reporting heavy black smoke and flames coming from the north end of Patz Pallett in the Town of Beaver. Crews from several departments rushed to the scene.
Officials say a sprinkler system, installed just weeks ago, helped contain the fire inside the building before it could spread. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames and then checked the structure for any extension into the roof or surrounding areas.
According to the Pound Volunteer Fire Department, damage was minimal—and the outcome could have been far worse.
They estimate the sprinkler system may have saved a couple million dollars in damage, along with several local jobs.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
