The nation’s largest one-day food drive is happening this weekend—and local organizers say a small bag of groceries can go a long way. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, takes place this Saturday, May 9th. Residents are encouraged to leave non-perishable food items by their mailbox early in the morning for pickup. Volunteers and postal carriers will begin collecting donations starting at 9 a.m., so organizers stress getting items out as early as possible.
Locally, donations collected in Marinette will be split between The Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantries, helping stock shelves ahead of the busy summer season.
Organizers say demand often increases when school is out, making this drive especially important for families with children. They’re asking for non-expired, non-perishable items like canned vegetables, soups, peanut butter, and pantry staples.
Volunteers are also still needed to help pick up donations along routes Again, residents are asked to place donations by their mailbox before 9 a.m. this Saturday.
