Marinette City leaders are moving closer to a major redevelopment project involving the historic Armory and City Hall. During last week’s city council meeting, officials received a detailed update on the project’s timeline, budget concerns, and upcoming bid process. The City of Marinette is pushing forward with plans to redevelop the Armory and City Hall complex—but rising costs are creating new challenges.
Project consultant Catherine Hitch with BOLDT Construction told council members the project is currently estimated about six-hundred-thousand dollars over its target budget.
Officials say the overall project target remains around seven-point-five million dollars, with construction bids expected later this month. Hitch also outlined several added costs tied to infrastructure upgrades, including electrical improvements, storm water systems, security upgrades, and asbestos remediation. Despite the higher price tag, city leaders say the project remains critical for long-term operations and public safety.
The city plans to open bids publicly on May twentieth, with council expected to review final guaranteed pricing in early June. If approved on schedule, demolition and site work could begin by late June or early July.
