A Menominee man is heading to prison after repeatedly violating the terms of his probation stemming from a drunk driving conviction.
Thirty-eight-year-old Edward Richard Hollsten Junior has been sentenced to between 17 months and five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. Menominee County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg says the sentence was handed down June 5th by Judge Christopher Ninomiya in Menominee County Circuit Court.
Court records show Hollsten was originally convicted of Operating While Intoxicated, Third Offense, in 2023. He was sentenced to 10 months in jail and placed on three years of probation.
According to Prosecutor Rogg, Hollsten repeatedly violated probation by consuming alcohol, including incidents in March, August, and December of last year. Authorities say some of those violations involved blood alcohol levels more than three times the legal limit.
Rogg also noted that Hollsten was arrested twice for domestic violence while on probation. He said the repeated violations left the court with little choice but to impose a prison sentence.
The prosecutor expressed hope that substance abuse treatment, anger management, and domestic violence counseling available through the prison system will help rehabilitate Hollsten and reduce the risk of future offenses.
