The future of several former UW-Green Bay Marinette campus facilities remains uncertain, but local leaders say community support will likely be critical moving forward.
The Marinette Common Council and Marinette County Board met Tuesday afternoon at the Bay Shore Arts Center to discuss the future of the campus, including the theater, library, classrooms, Field House, pool and Runnoe Park.
Among those providing updates was the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA, which has been exploring potential opportunities involving campus facilities.
YMCA Director Jenni Campbell says one of the biggest challenges remains funding.
The YMCA says initial expectations for the project have changed and the cost could be significantly higher than originally anticipated.
Officials say discussions will continue over the coming months as a committee works to evaluate options and determine which future uses for the campus facilities may be viable.
Mayor Steve Genisot says Tuesday’s meeting helped provide some direction moving forward.
No formal action was taken during the joint meeting.
