A new proposal would transform the former U-W Green Bay Marinette campus into a conference, education and performing arts complex—potentially anchored by a privately operated hotel.
Former Marinette Alderperson Doug Oitzinger presented the concept to Marinette County officials, saying the campus could once again attract visitors, support local businesses and generate sales and room-tax revenue.
The proposal would preserve the theater and repurpose the former library for meetings, workshops, weddings and small concerts. Part of the main classroom and administration building could be removed to make room for a privately constructed hotel.
Oitzinger stressed the proposal remains a concept—not a finalized development plan. He says a market analysis would be needed to determine whether the project could be financially sustainable.
Committee members also reviewed early results from a public survey on the campus property.
The county had received 367 survey responses at the time of the meeting. While respondents showed strong support for arts and educational uses, officials say the cost to taxpayers remains one of the public’s biggest concerns.
The proposal and survey results will continue through the county’s committee review process.
