The Menominee City Council will consider changing the city’s marijuana ordinance—a move that could temporarily block three dispensaries nearing approval.

The amendment, introduced by Councilmember Cheryl Haupt, would expand the required distance between marijuana businesses and churches from 200 feet to 1,000 feet.

It would also establish new 1,000-foot buffer zones around City of Menominee municipal operations and residential properties.

If approved, the changes could affect Puff Cannabis, Urb and Highwire Farms.

Puff and Urb are located immediately south and north of the Menominee Municipal Complex on 10th Street. Highwire Farms, at the corner of 10th Avenue and 10th Street, sits directly across from Holy Spirit Church.

All three businesses are reportedly nearing approval, but their locations could conflict with the proposed buffer requirements.

A public hearing is set for tonight’s City Council meeting at 6pm.
