The DAR Boys & Girls Club in Menominee marked more than a century of service Friday — celebrating a mission that began in 1915 and still shapes local kids today. Founded by Mrs. Blesch and other members of the daughters of the American Revolution, the club first opened its doors to help teenage boys getting into trouble during the logging era. By 1918, the Menominee Board of Education turned over the old State Street School building, now the Seventh Street home of the DAR.
That’s current Executive Director Koreen Gardon, who says the club’s roots still guide its work — promoting character, leadership, physical well-being, and self-esteem for every child who walks through its doors.
Jim Clark, President and CEO of the National Boys & Girls Clubs of America, attended Friday’s celebration — praising Menominee’s DAR chapter for making sure all kids have access to experiences and opportunities that help them succeed for life. The program also included a pledge led by Dayton and William Nelson; Isla Beckman; Ty and Davion Davis; Gianna Harvio; Lennox Beauchamp; Fatima Reyes; and Sophia and Olivia Vano.
After more than a hundred years, the DAR Boys & Girls Club continues to live its mission — building strong kids, strong families, and a strong community.
