The Spies Public Library is turning into a hub for local creativity this month, as the Menominee Area Arts Council brings its annual art exhibit to town. Library Director Tarra Gamlin says the gallery is already up and running, and showcases a wide range of local talent.
The exhibit will remain open through most of the month, but the main event is set for Saturday, May 16th, with an artist reception from 10:30 to 12:30. That event will also spotlight the next generation of artists, as the Arts Council awards three scholarships; including one brand new this year.
Gamlin says the new award was inspired by a standout student who went above and beyond supporting younger artists in the community. In addition to that new honor, two long-standing scholarships will each award one thousand dollars to students pursuing the arts. Organizers say the event is about more than just showcasing talent; it’s about building connections across the community.
The exhibit is open to the public throughout the month, with the reception and scholarship presentations happening May 16th at the library.
