The U.S. Navy officially welcomed the USS Cleveland into active service this weekend during a commissioning ceremony held in the ship’s namesake city of Cleveland, Ohio.
The USS Cleveland, also known as LCS 31, was built by Fincantieri Marinette Marine with support from shipbuilders across the company’s Wisconsin shipyard system.
Company officials say the commissioning marks the culmination of years of work by skilled tradespeople, engineers, and suppliers who helped bring the vessel to life.
The ceremony included remarks from Navy leaders, local officials, and ship sponsor Robyn Modly, who recognized both the crew preparing to serve aboard the vessel and the shipbuilders responsible for its construction.
Fincantieri Marinette Marine also acknowledged its partnership with Lockheed Martin and suppliers nationwide involved in the project.
The USS Cleveland now officially joins the fleet and begins active service for the United States Navy.
