Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller says dispatchers received a report of a residential explosion on Finnel Road at approximately 10:34 Friday morning.
The Wausaukee Fire Department, Wausaukee Rescue and Marinette County Sheriff’s deputies responded, finding the home fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, crews searched the residence and located two occupants. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
They have been identified as 81-year-old Roger N. McClellan and 79-year-old Barbara A. McClellan, both of Wausaukee.
The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice State Fire Marshals, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Also assisting at the scene were Wisconsin DNR Fire, Amberg Fire, Mellen Township Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Fire, Athelstane Fire and Crivitz Fire.
Sheriff Miller says his department’s thoughts and prayers are with the McClellan family.
