Interest in the proposed Back Forty Mine is resurfacing—and the Coalition to Save the Menominee River says it is preparing for another fight.

Coalition board member Mary Hanson says the group will hold a public update Thursday, September 24th, at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Marinette.

The meeting will include an update on the Back Forty project, a presentation on mining and its potential impacts, and information about the proposed Copperwood Mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Coalition Vice President Buddha says Michigan environmental regulators have not yet received a new feasibility study—and he was told a formal submission could still be a year or two away.

The coalition says the renewed interest follows several quiet years after earlier permits connected to the project were challenged.

The September 24th meeting begins at six p.m. in room MN-115 at NWTC in Marinette. It is free and open to the public.
